23 years ago, #OTD, August 13, 1997 - South Park debuts on Comedy Central with its series premiere episode ”Cartman Gets an Anal Probe”. Creators Trey Parker & Matt Stone animated the episode using paper-cutout stop-motion. It remains the only South Park episode animated largely without the use of computer technology. The opening theme song for the series was created by Primus. The show's popularity resulted in a feature-length theatrical film, South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut which was released in June 1999, less than two years after the show's premiere, and garnered a nomination for an Academy Award. In 2013, TV Guide ranked South Park the tenth Greatest TV Cartoon of All Time. The show's twenty-third season premiered on September 25, 2019. The series has received numerous accolades, including five Primetime Emmy Awards and a Peabody Award. #SouthPark #SouthParkDay
