50 years ago, #OTD in Oz history, June 15, 1970 - The Land of Oz theme park opens for the first time in Beech Mountain, North Carolina. Designed by Jack Pentes, the park would feature music by Loonis McGlohon & Alec Wilder, and choreography by Alice Leggett Lamar. The grand opening attracted 4,000 visitors and was facilitated by Debbie Reynolds, who performed the ribbon cutting. Debbie also brought her daughter, a then 13 year old Carrie Fisher, along for the festivities. The park became an overnight success and still opens for guests twice a year. Happy 50th Anniversary! 🌈 #LandOfOz #BeechMountain #TheWizardOfOz#ThemePark
