Happy 35th Anniversary to Jack Sholder & David Chaskin's A Nightmare on Elm Street Part 2: Freddy's Revenge! Released on this day, November 1, 1985, the film grossed $30 million at the box office on a budget of $3 million. It was distributed by New Line Cinema and received mixed reviews upon its initial release, but has enjoyed later success as a cult classic, with critics having reassessed the film's homoerotic themes, subject material and a brilliant performance by Mark Patton. I consider Freddy's make-up and overall tone to be the scariest in this sequel, thanks to Kevin Yagher's artistic abilities coupled with the incomparable Robert Barton Englund’s acting chops. The film was also the basis for Patton’s Scream Queen! My Nightmare on Elm Street documentary, which Robert and I happily contributed to on Kickstarter and have our names listed in the credits.
