"Reach for the sky!" 25 years ago, OTD, November 19, 1995 - Disney & Pixar’s Toy Story, directed by John Lasseter, co-written by Joss Whedon and starring John Morris, Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Annie Potts, Don Rickles, Jim Varney, R. Lee Ermey, Wallace Shawn, John Ratzenberger, Laurie Metcalf & Erik von Detten has its premiere at The El Capitan Theatre. It was the first entirely computer-animated feature film, as well as the first feature film from Pixar. The film received three Academy Award nominations (Best Original Screenplay, Best Original Song for "You've Got a Friend in Me" by Randy Newman, and Best Original Score) as well as winning a Special Achievement Academy Award. In 2005, during its first year of eligibility, the film was inducted into the National Film Registry for being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant". In addition to home media and theatrical re-releases, Toy Story-inspired material includes toys, video games, theme park attractions, spin-offs, merchandise, and three sequels—Toy Story 2 (1999), Toy Story 3 (2010) and Toy Story 4 (2019)—all of which garnered commercial success and critical acclaim.
